Howdy y'all. Miss me? I hope you guys are having a great week.
Apologies for being so absent; so much has been going on. I want to believe I
now have a strict routine for blogging. I took length check pictures this
weekend. The hair growth in 5 months is such a motivation. Will be posting pictures
soon. Let me know how you guys like my new banner. This week's post is about
how to take care of our hair, whilst still in a weave. I'm actually really
excited about this post because it was one of the requested posts by Ozodi, a
reader of this blog. Thanks Ozodi for this making me write this post. So here
we go. Here is how to take care of hair whilst in extensions.
PRIOR TO INSTALLATION
Before we go into hair care
whilst in a weave/braids, we must first have healthy hair. Placing extensions
on unhealthy hair will just not help the issue. If your hair seems to be
breaking, you must need a protein treatment; and if its feels dry and is NOT
breaking, you may need a moisturizing treatment. It all really depends on your
hair. One way to distinguish products containing protein and moisture
ingredients, is by label of the product.
For example a protein product might say : for damaged hair; a moisture product: moisture enriched. It might be confusing at first but eventually you'll get the hang of it. I will try to post something on moisture and protein for more clarity.
Now that we know our hair is healthy we can proceed to installing extensions. It is advisable to wash hair so as to cleanse the hair and remove product build up; and deep condition with a protein treatment to strengthen the hair for installation.

WHILST IN EXTENSIONS
There are mainly two things
we have to remember when our hair is in extensions; and that is to Moisturize regularly
and cleanse when needed.
Moisturize Regularly
Simply because your hair is
in extensions, does not mean it is inaccessible. The best way to moisturize
your hair in this state is to use a spritz bottle
or a
braid sheen spray
. The basic mixture used in a spritz bottle is water, conditioner and oil. The thing about spritz bottles is that they can be suited to what works best for you. I personally don't use spritz bottle mixtures (maybe because I haven't found my perfect mixture); but I think sheen sprays work as good, and yes you can use them for weaves to.

How To
Lift each track of your weave
and spray directly on scalp. Do this at least every two days. NB: any leave out
should be moisturized the normal way (blog post on moisturizing the right way
soon)
Cleanse When Needed
If you plan to leave your
weave in for more than a month, then it is advisable you cleanse your hair to
prevent build up and just plain dirt. If you would rather avoid washing your
hair, then take it off before 4 weeks, even your braids... Lol. What do I even
mean by product build up? When products are continuously applied, they become
clogged up. If they are not washed off, they tend to block the new products
that are added from working. So you are just adding products unto the hair to
simply "sit" on it.
In summary, let's not make
weaves an excuse to leave our hair unattended to. Post your questions and
requests in the comment section. My next post will be on how to cleanse a
weave. Have a lovely week.
